Hi Barbara!
I LOVE this green bean casserole! It is still requested by the young adult males in our extended family, which blows my mind! I'm going to make it this year and cut it in half as we will be small in numbers this year, but I still have to have this dish for Thanksgiving. Enjoy and thanks so much for stopping by! Happy Holidays!

Hi Karen!
The thought never once entered my mind! lol You just have to make this recipe to understand the huge part that the croutons play in this dish! Now that said, you could sprinkle the crispy fried onions on top (although everything in me is screaming NO! lol), but I do understand traditions play a huge part of this dish. When I tell you that 20 year old boys gobble this down every Thanksgiving and leave the dish empty...I'm not kidding! They L.O.V.E. this green bean casserole. I think you will too. Give it a try! You can add the Crispy Fried Onions. I'll still love ya!
Happy Nesting,

Hi Marina!
I feel the same way about this green bean casserole. I made it yesterday for Thanksgiving and everyone LOVED it! It's so good and like nothing I've ever had. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you enjoy your Holidays.
Come back soon.
Happy Nesting,

In reply to <a href="https://www.norinesnest.com/fresh-green-bean-casserole/comment-page-1/#comment-8885">Rebecca Sloan</a>.

Hi Becky!
First thank you for your comments. I always appreciate hearing the good and the bad. I'm sorry you were disappointed in this recipe. I've made it several times and it turns out perfect every time, so I'm not sure why it didn't work out for you. In fact my Sister-in-law made this recently and said it turned out fantastic. The beans in this recipe are tender crisp, but should not be very crispy. If you do decide to give this recipe another try, I would do the "tender crisp" boil before hand a little bit longer than the 2-3 minutes listed in the recipe. Try 5 minutes. If you have a thicker bean that could why. I'm a little speechless on the lack of flavor. The croutons are garlic and onion, there is minced garlic, onions, bacon, bacon fat, mushrooms, dill...cheese. All ingredients with loads of flavor. I'm at a loss there. Sorry. Yes the reserved bacon grease is for cooking the mushrooms and onions in. I will go make that more clear in the recipe. Thank you for pointing that out. I do hope you'll come back and try some of my other recipes. Again, sorry this didn't work out for you.
Have a Great Week!

Just tried this recipe. Very disappointed. The green beans were not done, very crispy. Also, the croutons partially crushed just stayed crunchy, the ones that weren't crunched. Might be better to crush them all. Hardly any flavor at all from the casserole. You stated in the recipe "creamy garlic dill sauce". The only garlic was to be put in with the mushroom onion mixture. Also, the reserved bacon grease I assume was for using in the mushroom onion sauté mixture. Anyway, it sounded so good just not sure what went wrong with mine. I will check out your other recipes and I do appreciate your website, very nice picture taking too. Thanks!
