I know you’re replying to Lloyd and I just want to step in here for a minute. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for us as recipe creators to try and share recipes particular to other parts of the world and country because everyone has an opinion on what is “traditional” to their culture and area. I actually have friends from Hawaii who do make their salad this way. Maybe someone’s Auntie decided to add vinegar long ago and that’s how their family now makes it. Maybe your family makes it differently. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of ways to make a “Traditional Mexican” Taco. I see from previous comments that you are outspoken on what Traditional Hawaiian Mac salad is. I’m sorry if this recipe has offended you. It’s still a great salad recipe that was given to me by friends who still currently live in Hawaii, and this is how they make it. Maybe they are just a stray branch on the big islands family tree. 😉 Thank you for sharing your comments and passion on Hawaiian Mac Salad. Have a blessed day!

@lloyd, yup! I agree. This is NOT a traditional Hawaiian Mac salad. Why is it so hard for him to not understand that we do not use any milk and apple cider vinegar or any vinegar in our salad. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I have no idea why they would say that? A pasta that has been overcooked has already absorbed all the liquid it can, and will be too soft. An “al dente” pasta still has room to absorb more liquid and retain it’s shape. Perhaps the other sites prefer “soggy” pasta? I know this isn’t super helpful…but I hope you enjoy this recipe!
