Love is in the air… and in the oven! Nothing says “Be Mine” quite like a pan of warm, chewy blondies bursting with chocolate chips and colorful Valentine M&M’s.

I believe the best memories are made around homemade treats—and this one is guaranteed to bring smiles. These easy-to-make bars are the perfect no-fuss dessert for classroom parties, sweet surprises for neighbors, or a cozy night in with your favorite people.

I have to be honest and tell you that I had never made blondies before making this recipe. Couldn’t tell you why? But, I’m SO glad that I am now a bona fide member of the “Blondie club”. With their soft, buttery chewy centers and slightly crisp edges, they’re the perfect sweet treat! A decadent chocolate chip cookie without all the work!

  • 1½ cups of brown sugar — light or dark work in this recipe.
  • ½ cup butter (no substitutes…cause there aren’t any for REAL butter),melted.
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips — you can substitute milk chocolate or white chocolate chips for the semi-sweet.
  • 1 cup Valentine’s M&M’s – divide in half.

This recipe is ridiculously easy to make. It’s one of the reasons I love it so much. If you need a quick dessert for Valentine’s Day, or a “Galentines” party, this is it!

Preheat oven to 350°(F). Grease a 9 in. x 13 in. x 2 in. baking pan.

In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar and butter. Mixing in the warm butter first prevents the beaten eggs from “cooking” before the batter is made.

Add eggs and vanilla. Stir until just blended.

Isn’t it a beautiful caramel color? You just know these are going to be good from that gorgeous color. All the right ingredients are combined in this recipe, making them the perfect gooey, chewy dessert.

In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Stir to combine.

Ever wonder why recipes call for the dry ingredients to be mixed together BEFORE adding them to the wet ingredients? This helps to make sure all the ingredients are evenly integrated and prevents over-mixing the batter.

Add the dry ingredients to the “wet” brown sugar mixture.

Mix the two together until combined. Do not over mix the batter. The texture will resemble a gooey brownie batter. That is the perfect consistency.

Now for the fun part! Stir in chocolate chips and half the M&M’s. Reserve the other half for topping the blondies before baking.

Spread the Blondie batter into the prepared baking dish. Place the other half of the reserved M&M’s on top of the spread Blondie batter.

TIP: You can add Valentine Sprinkles halfway through baking if desired.

Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Place on a wire rack to cool. Cut into bars. This recipe should make 3 dozen bars, making it a great treat to share with others.

Spread the Blondie batter in a prepared baking pan.

Simple ingredients, one mixing bowl, and lots of chocolate goodness—now that’s my kind of Valentine’s Day treat!

TIP: I recommend storing the baked blondies in an airtight container. If stored properly, they should stay fresh up to 5 days.

Freezer Instructions: You can also freeze these delicious treats in an airtight container, with parchment or wax paper between layers so they don’t stick together. They can be stored in the freezer up to 2 months.

NOTE: I do not recommend freezing the dough as this is more of a cake-type batter than cookie batter.
