Sharing is caring!

Shredded Chicken, Tater Tots, Cheese, and a delicious creamy ranch sauce combine to create this delicious Chicken Ranch Tater Tot Casserole. An amazing casserole your family is sure to love and ask for again and again!

This casserole had to have a name change! I changed it to Chicken Ranch Tater Tot Casserole to protect the innocent!

Pretty Teal Plate with a serving of Chicken Ranch Tater Tot Casserole

It’s original name…“Cracked Out” Chicken Casserole! (What???! Whose getting their chickens high? Or are we picking on the little spuds in this dish? Is this profiling? These are important questions my friends! Lol) It’s a fantastic dish made up of chicken, bacon, cheese, and tater tots!

Last month I was putting together”freezer” meals for my daughter who was on the verge of having baby #2! I know what it’s like to have just had a baby, and then you also have a toddler. Your hands are full and the last thing you want to worry about is making dinner!  (Please! You’re just praying for a shower and clean sweatpants right?)

I wanted to make something different. A true “comfort” dish! Let’s face it…the original name leads one to believe it would a “happy” dish! So, when I ran across this Chicken Ranch Tater Tot Casserole over on Plainchicken.com, I knew it would be perfect! (I give Stephanie all the credit for this delicious dish!)

You are going to LOVE how easy this dish is to make, and your family is REALLY going to LOVE how fantastically delicious this recipe is!

How To Make Chicken Ranch Tater Tot Casserole

What you’ll need to make this dish

  • 3 cups chopped cooked chicken (It doesn’t need to be chicken that is in a recovery program!)
  • 16 oz sour cream
  • 1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
  • 1 (1 oz) package Original Ranch dressing mix
  • 1 (3 oz) bag real bacon pieces (Oscar Mayer)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 lb bag frozen tater tots

That’s it! Seven simple ingredients help you create a truly easy yummy family friendly dish. I’m almost embarrassed to do a step-by-step for this dish because it’s so easy! However, it’s just too good not to share!

Preheat oven to 350°. Lightly spray a 9 x 13 dish with cooking spray. Set aside.

In a large bowl, mix together Chicken, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, ranch dressing, bacon pieces, and cheddar cheese.

large bowl with all ingredients except tater tots and mixing spoon

Fold in Frozen Tater Tots. (This is a great beginner dish for your little chefs to help with!)

Folding in 2 lbs of frozen tater tots

Spoon the Chicken Ranch Tater Tot Casserole mixture into your prepared 9 x 13 pan.

TIP: If you are making this as a freezer meal to give away to a neighbor or family member use the disposable aluminum foil baking pans. They work great for this dish!

I added a little extra cheese on top…because ummmm…. it’s CHEESE!!! I mean if we are going for a full “cracked out” version…let’s kick it up friends!

9 x 13 pan filled with chicken ranch tater tot casserole mixture

Bake in preheated oven for 40–45 minutes or until bubbly!

Remove from oven and serve! (Watch it magically vanish before your eyes!)

What’s not to love about this casserole? It is loaded with all the good stuff! Bacon, Chicken, Cheese, Ranch, and those tender delicious little Tots! Who knew Tater Tots were so good in a casserole? (Kids! Kids knew! They’re the official members of the Tater Tots Fan Club!  I mean, they were named after them…”Tots”! Lol

This is SO good that “Mars” went back for THIRDS!!! I had one helping, and he ate the rest of the pan! (In his defense I had divided it in half…he’s not a total piggy!)

This dish is like a big ol’ hug for your tummy!

I serve this wonderful dish with a big Green Salad and a side vegetable. BAM…you’ve got dinner!  You can make this casserole earlier in the day and keep it in the refrigerator until your ready for dinner.

TIP: If there’s just two of you, divide this casserole in half, and freeze half for another night. It truly freezes beautifully. Take it out in the morning and bake it later that evening when you’re ready for dinner.

Can you freeze this first without cooking? I am trying to put some meals together before my baby gets here.

Hi Katelyn! Yes you can freeze this first but you do need to at least have the chicken cooked. I made this one for my daughter and froze it before her baby was born. It worked perfectly and was one of their favorites. Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting. Best wishes on the new little one! Happy Nesting... ~Norine
