Biscuit French Toast is a wonderful way to turn simple homemade biscuits into a warm, comforting breakfast everyone will love. Instead of traditional bread, buttery biscuits soak up a rich egg and milk mixture, creating a golden, slightly crisp outside with a soft, tender center. It’s a delicious twist on classic French toast that feels both cozy and a little bit special.

One of the best things about Biscuit French Toast is how quick and easy it is to make. I like to use homemade biscuits from the night before. This recipe comes together in just minutes. It’s perfect for busy mornings, weekend brunch, or those days when you want a homemade breakfast without a lot of fuss.

  • 8-day old cooked biscuits (better if slightly stale)
  • 4 eggs
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
Ingredients for Biscuit French Toast on a counter.
  • Cut biscuits in half. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla, almond extract and cinnamon.  Add milk after combining sugar and cinnamon with eggs. Whisk until completely combined.

TIP: Whisking the eggs, sugar, and cinnamon together BEFORE adding the milk keeps the cinnamon from floating on top of the batter and creates a smoother batter.

  • Melt some butter in a skillet over medium heat, or spray an electric griddle (300°) with non-stick cooking spray. Dip biscuit halves into the milk mixture, allowing the biscuits to soak up some of the mixture.

  • Gently, shake off excess and place in the skillet, or on top of the hot griddle. Cook the biscuit until brown on one side, flip and brown the other side.

Getting that perfect golden outside with a soft, fluffy center is what makes Biscuit French Toast so irresistible. With just a few simple tips, you can turn ordinary biscuits into a breakfast that’s beautifully crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.

  1. Use slightly stale biscuits if possible. Fresh biscuits are delicious, but letting them sit out for a few hours—or even using leftovers from the day before—helps them absorb the egg mixture without becoming soggy. This creates a custardy interior while still holding their shape in the skillet.
  2. Don’t over soak the biscuits. Biscuits are more delicate than traditional sandwich bread, so they only need a quick dip in the egg mixture. A few seconds on each side is usually enough to coat them well without making them too soft.
  3. Cook over medium heat. A skillet that’s too hot will brown the outside before the inside has a chance to warm through. Medium heat allows the biscuits to cook evenly, giving them that beautiful golden crust while keeping the center light and fluffy.
  4. Use butter for flavor and color. Melting a little butter in the skillet before adding the biscuits helps create a rich golden finish and adds that classic French toast flavor. If the pan starts to look dry between batches, add another small pat. I like to use a large electric griddle sprayed with non-stick cooking spray in-between each batch. Either technique works beautifully.

With these simple tricks, every batch of Biscuit French Toast will come out golden, tender, and absolutely breakfast-worthy.

One of the best things about this version of French Toast is how easy it is to customize with different toppings and flavors. Whether you prefer something simple and classic or a little more indulgent, a few thoughtful additions can turn this delicious breakfast into something truly special.

For a classic finish, drizzle warm maple syrup over the top and add a light dusting of powdered sugar. Fresh berries like strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries add a bright, slightly tart flavor that pairs beautifully with the rich biscuits. A spoonful of whipped cream can make it feel like a weekend brunch treat.

If you’re craving something a little more decadent, try topping your Biscuit French Toast with warm sautéed apples or cinnamon-spiced peaches. A drizzle of caramel sauce or a sprinkle of chopped toasted pecans or walnuts adds wonderful texture and flavor.

You can also create fun variations by adding flavor directly to the custard mixture. A little orange or lemon zest can add extra warmth and depth. For a richer twist, spread a little cream cheese, lemon curd or fruit jam between two biscuit halves before dipping and cooking, creating a delicious stuffed version.

No matter how you serve it, Biscuit French Toast is a versatile breakfast that welcomes creativity, making it easy to tailor each plate to your favorite flavors.

Biscuit French Toast is hearty and satisfying on its own, but pairing it with the right sides can turn breakfast into a full, well-rounded meal.

  • A plate of warm Biscuit French Toast served with crispy bacon or savory breakfast sausage creates the perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors. The richness of the biscuits pairs especially well with those classic breakfast favorites.
  • Fresh fruit is another wonderful addition. A bowl of mixed berry fruit salad, sliced oranges, or melon adds a bright, refreshing contrast to the buttery toast. The natural sweetness and juiciness help lighten the meal while adding beautiful color to the breakfast table.
  • For a more filling brunch-style spread, consider serving Biscuit French Toast alongside scrambled eggs, and breakfast casserole, loaded vegetable quiche, or a fluffy sausage omelet. The eggs add extra protein and make the meal feel a little more complete, especially if you’re serving a crowd or hosting a weekend brunch.
  • And of course, don’t forget the beverages. A hot cup of coffee, tea, or even a glass of cold milk pairs perfectly with this comforting breakfast. For special occasions, fresh orange juice or a fruit smoothie can make the whole meal feel even more festive and satisfying.

There’s something so satisfying about turning a few simple biscuits into a warm, golden breakfast that tastes like you spent all morning in the kitchen. Biscuit French Toast is one of those cozy recipes that feels a little special, yet comes together with ingredients you probably already have on hand

This easy breakfast is just as perfect for a quiet morning at home as it is for a relaxed weekend brunch with family and friends.

If you happen to have leftover biscuits sitting on the counter, I make a double batch and always have a few leftovers. This recipe is a wonderful way to give them new life.
