The Holiday season is a time for gathering with friends, family, and co-workers! The center of attention at every Christmas party is the food! Good food! No one wants to waste calories on appetizers that are mediocre.

Having delicious no-fuss finger foods prepared ahead of time, that you can pull out at that drop of a hat for that last minute party or “drop-in” guest, is a must in my book!

The classic cheese ball is a Holiday favorite! They’re delicious and personally, one of my favorite appetizers. However, no one ever finishes an entire cheese ball in one night! Right?

They’re a fantastic appetizer, but your left hanging with a half-eaten ball of cheese that you certainly don’t want to pull out and serve again! (So much waste! I’m not a big fan of wasting food in a world with so many that go hungry!)

The solution…. “mini cheese balls”! A great appetizer that can be made ahead of time, stored in the refrigerator during the Holidays, and pulled out when it’s time to PAR-TAY!!! They’re also a great addition to a Holiday Cheese Board. If you need help I have a great post on how to create a Cheese Board.

I love the creamy robust flavors in these creamy little appetizers. I know you will too.

How To Make Mini Blue Cheese Walnut Balls

In a medium bowl combine 4 oz. softened cream cheese, 1 cup crumbled blue cheese, 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese, 1/4 cup minced green onion, and 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce.

TIP: I used my small food processor to crumble the shredded cheddar cheese. This makes rolling the cheese balls easier.

Mix all the ingredients until well combined, making sure to scrape the sides of the bowl down often while mixing.

Using a spoon, scoop up 1 tablespoon of the cheese mixture and roll into a ball. Continue rolling cheese mixture into balls and placing on tray lined with wax paper, or a silicone baking mat. Cover bowl and chill while toasting walnuts.

Tip: Washing hands frequently will help to keep the cheese balls from sticking to your hands while rolling. Chilling the cream cheese mixture for 30 minutes before rolling into balls.

In a small skillet, over medium heat, add 1 cup chopped walnuts. Using a wooden kitchen tool, or spatula, stir walnuts in skillet until they begin to toast. You’ll smell the scent of toasted walnuts as the oils release and the nuts begin to turn light golden brown.

Remove nuts from the pan immediately, so they do not burn. Place on a plate to cool.

Once the nuts are completely cool, remove mini cheese balls from refrigerator and roll in toasted chopped walnuts!

Once rolled place on wax paper until all the balls have been rolled in toasted walnuts.

To store, place in an airtight container, and keep chilled in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

When ready to serve, place mini cheese balls on top of a cracker or mini twisted pretzel. I used mini pretzels. They add a little extra something special to this appetizer.

Allow cheese balls to set out 30 minutes before serving. Arrange on a platter, garnish with parsley, and serve!

Each little tidbit is loaded with flavor, from the seasoned blue cheese ball, to the toasted walnuts.

I love the crunch and salt from the pretzels and how well they pair with the cheese balls. They create the perfect bite!
