If you follow these simple and easy step-by-step instructions, you’ll have beautiful cherry pastries in no time!

Preheat the oven to 375°(F). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, or use the parchment paper that comes with the puff pastry.

Unwrap the puff pastry and lay the pastry flat. I like to use a rolling pin to go over the dough once or twice to flatten and square it off. Do NOT apply pressure. Just use the rolling pin to help “uncurl” the dough. Cut the pastry into 6 equal squares.

TIP: Use a pizza cutter to easily cut the puff pastry dough.

Place one large heaping tablespoon of cherry pie filling into the center of each square of puff pastry.

Using a pastry brush, apply a little egg wash around the outside edges of each square. This helps the edges “stick” together during baking.

Fold one corner over to the other corner. Using a fork, press the edges together to seal the turnover shut.

Brush the top of the pastry with egg wash and place each turnover on the parchment-lined baking sheet.

NOTE: I’m a lazy egg washer! I tend to use the whole egg for the egg wash. However, generally speaking, most bakers only use just the egg whites. Both work, the egg yolk will add extra color to the wash, so you may want to use egg whites.

Place the turnovers in preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, until puff pastry is golden brown and crispy.

In a small bowl add powdered sugar, milk, almond extract and vanilla extract. Using a small wire whisk, until smooth. I love the combination of almond flavor with cherry. You can skip the almond extract if you’re not a fan, but I highly recommend it.

Using a spoon, drizzle the almond vanilla glaze back and forth over the top of each cherry turnover. Let the turnovers rest until the glaze has set.

Serve these Easy Cherry Turnovers slightly warm, when the flaky puff pastry is at its most tender and the cherry filling is perfectly luscious. Arrange them on a simple white platter or a rustic wooden board to let their golden, glossy tops shine.

If you’re not a fan of glaze, a light dusting of powdered sugar just before serving adds a delicate, bakery-style finish. You can also dust them with cinnamon sugar if preferred. The almond vanilla glaze can be served on the side for dipping.

For an extra-special touch, pair each turnover with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of freshly whipped cream—the contrast of warm pastry and cool cream is irresistible. As if they needed any more appeal than they already possess!

If you’re serving these for brunch or a gathering, garnish the platter with a few fresh cherries or a sprig of mint for a pop of color. Presentation is everything when entertaining! Whether enjoyed with a morning cup of herbal tea or as a simple dessert, these turnovers feel both comforting and slightly elegant.

One of the best things about this cherry turnover recipe is how easy it is to customize them to suit your taste or with what you have on hand. While the classic cherry filling is always a favorite, you can easily swap in other pie fillings like blueberry, apple, peach, or even a mixed berry blend for a fun twist.

For a homemade touch, stir a little lemon zest or almond extract into the cherry filling to brighten the flavor, or add a handful of fresh or frozen cherries for extra texture. If you enjoy a bit of crunch, sprinkle finely chopped almonds or pecans over the filling before sealing the pastry, or place them on top of the glaze.

For a real taste treat, spread the puff pastry with Nutella before adding the cherry pie filling!

You can also play around with the finishing details to make these turnovers your own. Instead of an almond glaze, try a simple vanilla icing, a dusting of powdered sugar, or even a drizzle of melted chocolate for a more decadent dessert.

For a slightly richer pastry, brush the tops with an egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar before baking to create a golden, sparkling crust. Whether you keep them classic or experiment with flavors and toppings, these cherry turnovers are wonderfully adaptable and always delicious.
